Dress Code

  • Students should wear clothing that allows them to move freely and to get messy (for some modules).  No shorts. No sleeveless shirts. No flip-flops.
  • Also, boys must wear long pants to all rehearsals; girls must wear long pants or a long skirt (as decided by the instructor depending on their costume in the performance) at all rehearsals.
  • All shirts must be long enough to cover the tops of pants/skirts when the student's arms are fully extended above the head.
  • If the student has long hair, it should be pulled back in a hair tie/scrunchy/bobby pins/etc. unless otherwise directed by the instructor. For this class, long hair will be defined as long enough that it can be pulled back into a hair tie OR bangs long enough to reach the tip of the student's nose.

Other information

  • Students must be willing to spend time outside of class memorizing their scripts.
  • Class time is not the time to memorize the script.  Memorization is done at home.  Class time is for working on blocking, movement, acting, etc. Students will be expected to memorize not only their own lines but cue lines as well.
  • Parents should expect lengthy rehearsals during the week prior to the performances.
  • Parents will be expected to make sure their student(s) are spending time each DAY memorizing the script.
  • Students should bring their own meals and beverages as needed.  We cannot supply these due to many varied dietary restrictions.  Send the meal with the student; since there is no set eating time and students eat when they have free moments, students should bring their own meals which do not require heating or refrigeration.  We discourage parents from bringing meals to students unless it is impossible to do otherwise.
  • Acting is not only fun, but it also contributes to our self-confidence and to our ability to empathize with others by allowing us to experience life from another being's point of view.  Acting encourages us to use memorization skills as well as body movements that assist us in moving gracefully.  Acting for a production allows students to gain skill in working in groups and allows students to have opportunities for leadership.
  • Parents are not allowed to attend rehearsals unless they are acting in the play or are participating in a tech position.
